About 50 minutes north to a dedicated instructor and $40 an hour instruction. Then you get to fly over the bridge you just drove across.
Sarasota students train with November Foxtrot Aviation, a St. Petersburg based instructor, about 38 miles and 50 minutes north of downtown Sarasota by way of I-75, I-275, and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Stefan also trains at other airports across the Tampa Bay area, so ask about the closest option. Every lesson is one on one with the same certified instructor at $40 an hour. A 1.5 hour discovery flight is $140.
Take I-75 north to I-275 and cross the Sunshine Skyway Bridge (a small toll) into St. Petersburg. It is about 50 minutes from downtown Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch, and about an hour from Siesta Key or Venice. Stefan confirms the airport and meeting spot when you book, and if an airport on the south side of the bay works for both of you, ask.

Sarasota Bradenton International is a busy commercial airport, and training there often means waiting on airline traffic with the engine running. At the smaller airports around Tampa Bay you are usually airborne within minutes. Students who drive up tend to book longer blocks, a ground lesson and a flight back to back, so each trip moves them further.
Training flights cross the mouth of Tampa Bay beside the Sunshine Skyway, with Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key, and the Sarasota bayfront visible to the south on a clear day. As you advance, longer training flights can bring you back toward your own side of the bay.

Students choose November Foxtrot Aviation for one on one instruction with the same instructor at every lesson, a $40 an hour rate, and smaller airports where you are not waiting behind airline traffic.
Most Sarasota students book longer blocks, combining a ground lesson and a flight in one visit, and choose early morning or weekend times. Flying two to three times a week is still the fastest path to a certificate.
The discovery flight with November Foxtrot Aviation is $140 for 1.5 hours, including a briefing, a preflight, and time at the controls over Tampa Bay and the Gulf beaches.
Send your details and Stefan will call or text to set up a time. Most flights are scheduled about a week out.
